JONATHAN CRANE
YOUR NAME : TWIST
CHARACTERS : Scarecrow, Poison Ivy
- - - - - - - - - - - -
FULL NAME: Dr. Jonathan Crane
ALIAS: Scarecrow
GENDER: male
AGE: 30
SIDE: villain
PHOTO REFERENCE:
OCCUPATION : By day a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum (he managed to convince, with some help from his lovely drugs, the administration of the asylum to take him back), Crane now deals drugs and hallucinogens to underground gangs and citizens.
RESIDENCE: Arkham Asylum
REASON FOR BEING: Scarecrow, as strange as it sounds, is obsessed with fear. He has had a fear of both death and bats in the past, but both have passed. He wishes only now to curse everyone in Gotham City with their worst fears, brought on by his newest drug, “Thrill”. Unfortunately, his close link to the local penitentiary, he has a very short leash and can barely do anything. He still is Scarecrow… but what can you do when you have no fear?
DESCRIPTION: Jonathan Crane was always mocked in school for his lanky figure. Unfortunately, this is something he could not help. He is of average height, with an abnormally thin body resembling a Tim Burton cartoon. His shaggy brown hair, grown from lack of treatment, covers some of the sharp angles of his face. His eyes are barely visible underneath all of his hair (and from the shadows he usually walks in), but the color is obviously a startling bright green. He usually stands with his hands in his pockets, with a slight hunched posture. He has no facial hair, having actually taken the time to be clean shaven. He is quite boney, with not too many physical gifts, but he makes up for it with his intellect.
ALTER-EGO: Scarecrow is quite simple to describe. On the other hand, he is not. In reality, Jonathan only has to pull on his burlap sack of a mask to disguise himself, a mask that also doubles as a gas mask. To anyone on Thrill, he could look a thousand different ways, anything from their worst fear to himself.
PERSONALITY: An introverted personality has never been so strange. Crane, having grown up in fear all of his life, revolves around his fascination with it. Every turn he takes, every move he makes, he thinks of everyone as mere pawns in his silly game. Even Batman and his allies are a joke in his mind. Unfortunately, Batman seems to be the only thing he DOES fear, but it’s a thrill rather than a negative feeling. He tends to randomly calculate things aloud, and speaks to himself often, a trait he picked up after years in prison. He doesn’t seem to be very romantically interested in anyone, but he’d probably use any woman as a pawn once again… or an experiment for his new drugs. Look out, addicts, here’s your supplier.
LIKES: Fear, hate, death, torture, math, kittens, and nightmares
DISLIKES: Happiness, romance, humanity, Batman, Poison Ivy, and Dr. Linda Friitawa
ABILITIES: Ultimately, Scarecrow can manipulate fear. He has no unnatural powers, as he IS a human, but his drugs allow him to masquerade as otherwise. Your worst nightmares come true when a touch of Thrill hits your senses. And, of course, he doesn't use the stuff sparingly.
GOAL IN LIFE: He merely wishes to get the thrill of seeing Batman attempt (and probably succeed) in thwarting his plans, but he also wishes to see all of humanity crippled by fear.
FAMILY: Born an only child, Jonathan was left with his stepfather and mother at an early age. Unfortunately, his stepfather had a breakdown. The result was a raped and murdered mother and a deranged, suicidal stepfather. Obviously, Crane is alone in life.
HISTORY: Children, in his time, mocked the weak. So, when this new kid showed up at school, lanky and small, he was a laughingstock. Instantly, everyone noticed how this pale kid resembled Ichibod Crane of Sleepy Hollow’s legends. Jonathan hated being referred to as “ICHIBOD” all of the time. So, he broke away early, and become quite, shy, and the most intelligent student in his class. After a certain point in his life, though, everything went downhill. His stepfather went on a rampage and raped Jonathan’s mother before his eyes, then proceeded to murder her as well. Moments later, he ended his own life. Jonathan, since then, had a thick fear of death. Eventually, he was forced to be put through years and years of foster homes, always being a hard child to place because of his odd quietness and slow-developing interest in fear. After graduation in Iowa, he eventually shipped off to college to gather a high degree in psychology… and he finished by the age of 22, being one of the youngest students to ever graduate with that degree from his school (which refuses to be named). He moved to Gotham out of pure interest in the city’s name, and eventually became one of the newest doctors at the Arkham Asylum. He began working on chemicals that mixed in the brain to produce fear, finding a mixture that would induce it without the needed shock factor (called Nightmare). He soon formed a bond with one of the city’s largest mobster, and they concocted a plan for Jonathan to plead insanity for the mobster’s workers, who then would be brought to the Asylum and released early. Unfortunately, Crane’s anxiety on trying out his newest drug got to him, and he began experimenting on his “patients”. After a very public attack on Gotham, in which he released the gas on the whole city, Scarecrow was incarcerated, but escaped. He then began to deal underground drugs and small doses of his own new mixture, Thrill. After six months out, he was caught by Dr. Linda Fiitawa and transformed into the Scarebeast, a mindless monster used by Penguin to kill dishonest colleagues. He eventually was turned back, not mutated at all, and was turned in to the prison in Gotham. After six years in prison, he was released for good behavior and has regained his job and his drug dealing. One of his biggest changes since prison is his habit of wandering, which eventually brought him to Robinson Park, where Poison Ivy proceeded to attack him, bringing on a new hatred for her in his life. He is now preparing for his next attack, but it could take a while.
